We’re glas-going to Scotland // March 2018

We were off to Glasgow, in theory Scotland’s second city, but actually the biggest and home to nearly 600,000 people. We were going raving, but more about that later. We were travelling by train, so had a 3 and a half hour journey ahead of us and plenty of time to get in a party mood 🥳

When we arrived, we walked straight to the hotel, Glasgow is pretty hilly let me tell you! We stayed at the ibis on Sauchiehall Street, which was pleasant enough, but full of party people ready to enjoy St Patrick’s Day. So that’s what we did… the gig wasn’t until quite late so we joined the crowds for a few celebratory pints of Guinness at All Bar One.

Needless to say, we were a bit peckish afterwards so we looked around for somewhere to eat. We found a little gem of a place called Mezzidakia and as it was my first time trying Greek food, I obviously wanted to order everything, but my absolute favourite were the topped flatbreads. We also got a few mezze plates to share, all washed down with a nice cold bottle of Mythos.

After that we went back to the hotel for a power nap and then a few hours later off to the venue. We were here to see Dad’s favourite DJs, Sasha and John Digweed, who were playing 11pm-3am. I’ll tell you about that another time, but when we got out it was snowing! We carefully walked back to the hotel and slept like a baby until the morning.

The day after we had some time to kill before the train home, but it was too cold to explore the city, so we headed to a pub called The Merchant and had a few pints (and shots to stay warm) and possibly the most mediocre Sunday roast we’d ever eaten. The meat was supposedly beef, but only DNA analysis could prove if this was the case or in fact we were eating a pair of tramp’s shoes. Thank goodness for gravy is all I can say! Still, we had a great day and now time for more sleep on the train home 😴
