Bryn de Bear

Well I’ll be Amsterdamned // October 2019

We had a beary beary early flight to Amsterdam, so I was one tired bear. How can I wake myself up, I know… an omlette! I need to get my egg on! It’s all about the eggs! We had been to Omelegg before, so we knew it was a good choice to start the day. There are two Omlegg’s in Amsterdam and it was the city centre one on Nieuwebrugsteeg that we went to.

There is an omelegg option for all, lots of different tasty filling options. As pioneers they do eggs as an eggspert should! They specialise in omelettes, using fresh ingredients prepared on the spot, your day can’t start any better than with such a nutritious breakfast. With their fast and friendly service, in a one of a kind breakfast restaurant, you can eggspect to get your egg on all day eggyday! 2697239 eggs cracked making breakfast for all its customers. Wow! That is a lot of eggs! Nearly as many as I’ve written egg puns. You can’t reserve a table and it is a fairly small place, but once you’re squeezed in, it’s well worth it.

Breakfast done, it was time for Amsterdam street art hunt, which you can read about via the link. When we were done, there was one last touristy thing to do, which was try and get a decent photo of the “I Amsterdam” sign, only to find it has been removed because it had become a tourist spot. We’d tried to get a good photo last time, but there were lots of girls in the way, pouting their massive lips taking selfies. It was not a pleasant sight, I can tell you. Anyway, never mind, we knew a good bar close by and spent a good few hours in Café De Heuvel on Prinsengracht, drinking Amstel Bock and wheat beer and chatting to the barman Edwin about Liverpool FC and the dreaded subject of Brexit!

We were a bit tipsy by now, so thought we best check into our accommodation before we started slurring our words too much. We were staying at Hotel Mozart which was pleasant enough and was in a generally quieter location, but still within walking distance of the bustling nightlife centre of the city. Once we were checked in, we headed for some food at Mr.Tom Snack Bar on Warmoesstraat. We had a beary tasty burger and fries, which definitely hit the spot. To finish the day off, time for a few pints at our Amsterdam “local”, the Old Nickel. With over 70 types of beer and always six types on tap, you can’t go wrong here.

Days two and three… more of the above, plus a visit to NDSM Werf, which you can read about on the street art post – link above.
