Bryn de Bear

The totally tropical taste of Turtle Bay NQ, Manchester

We were going to see my long lost cousins, Grizzly Bear, play later that night, so needed to be fed and watered first. Mum and Dad had been to Turtle Bay NQ before and had a great time and Mum was easily sold on the Happy Hour 2-4-1 Cocktails, that are available until 7pm every day, so the decision was made! We went to the Northern Quarter restaurant on Oldham Street, but there is also one on Oxford Street.

Turtle Bay is a Caribbean style restaurant, so I’m sure you can imagine it’s a lively place, with a great atmosphere, basically the party is always happening, I’m sure helped along a little by the rum that is the base of their many cocktails. Did someone say two for one! We’ll have six please! The only rule is the two cocktails have to be the same, so the difficult thing is whittling the choice – there was a huge selection of 26 cocktails at the time of writing – down to three. Whatever you pick, you can expect the cocktails to taste of sunshine and make you a little tipsy 😵

There’s a lot to like at Turtle Bay, including the food. Central to the restaurant is the beach shack-style bar lined with speakers. At the back, buried amongst some shipping containers is the open kitchen. We all ordered burgers, which are pit grilled, come with Caribbean slaw, baby gem, jerk mayo in a toasted bun, with a choice of either spiced fries or dressed salad. There’s lots of classic West Indian dishes on the menu and you can make them as warm as you want with the super hot sauce on every table.

We would definitely recommend Turtle Bay, a colourful place with great cocktails, awesome food and super service 😎
