Bryn de Bear

The time did not drag-on at Conwy Castle, Wales

Part one of Mum’s names day treat and we were off to Wales, the country of my birth. In Poland, for some people their names day is sometimes more important than their birthday, so Dad had to try and do something as a treat for Mum on 15th October every year. Basically, Mum is like the Queen because she has two “birthdays”! We would hopefully see some dragons today, but if not, then the next best thing and a visit to a castle.

Conwy Castle (Welsh: Castell Conwy) is located in North Wales. It is a beautifully preserved castle in a picturesque location. It was built by Edward I, during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1289. UNESCO considers Conwy to be one of “the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe” and it is classed as a World Heritage site. As far as castles go, this one is right up there. Very informative and still almost intact. It is a fantastic castle, with so much to explore inside that it made Mum and Dad feel like little kids again. Lots of good places to walk around and towers to climb, although lots of steep stairs so it can be a little tricky.

Just before I sign off, a quick mention to The Press Room Cafe. Located right next to the castle entrance, this arty cafe serves a tasty selection of meals, including Welsh rarebit on ciabatta (which we had and it was super scrummy!) and a good choice of cakes and scones to finish up with.
