The Chemical Brothers at Bluedot Festival, Jodrell Bank, Cheshire

It would be an understatement to say I was looking forward to this one. I’d bought all my essentials for a UK festival, wellies obviously a must but sunglasses as well as I’m an optimistic kind of bear. We set off mid-morning, it was raining a little bit but we had our paws and fingers crossed the weather would get better. We live just down the road in Macclesfield so this is as close as it gets for a festival. We jumped on the coach and half an hour later and one wrong turn by the driver ☹️, we arrived at Jodrell Bank and the fun could begin 😊

Set against a backdrop of the iconic Lovell Telescope, Bluedot combines a truly stellar line-up of music with a ground-breaking programme of live science experiments, expert talks and immersive artworks. Music headline acts for 2018 included The Flaming Lips and Future Islands, but we were here for the Sunday and The Chemical Brothers new live set. Yes!

We had a quick mooch around the site and the grabbed a beer before heading over to the Nebula stage to catch the end of Tomorrow We Sail. Sounded like some promising post rock and gutted we only caught the last song, but we will definitely try and catch them again some time.

The next act we wanted to see weren’t on until about 4pm, so we took the opportunity to have a few beers (and a very tasty burger) in the sun… yes, the sun came out and I’m so glad I took my sunglasses as my poor little bear eyes would hurt so much if I hadn’t! My Mum wasn’t too happy though as she had no sunglasses and got a little red from the sun!

Other highlight’s during the day and all on the Orbit Stage were Acid Mothers Temple, Vessels and George Fitzgerald and then not long after 9pm, it was time for the headliners over at the Lovell stage and I raved my little bear butt off for the next 90 minutes, “Hey Girl, Hey Boy, Superstar DJs, here we go” 😍

This was the third edition of Bluedot, but our first time and we’ll definitely be back. It is dubbed as a family friendly festival and that really did help create a good vibe and nice crowd compared to some other gigs and festivals we’ve been to. Top marks Bluedot, great job! The only downside was missing The Orb as we had to get the coach back, but we were aching from dancing so hard by then, so maybe it wasn’t a bad thing!
