Part two of Mum’s names day treat and a trip to the zoo. Mum loves animals so Dad couldn’t go wrong with this could he????
The Welsh Mountain Zoo is a zoological garden located near the town of Colwyn Bay in Wales. It’s also known as the National Zoo of Wales, the oldest and most established Zoo in the country, having been born as a small family run business by the Jackson family in 1963. Set on one of the most picturesque and unique landscapes for any UK Zoo, the Welsh Mountain Zoo occupies some 37 acres of lush green landscape and has over 140 species housed in their collection and to date has welcomed over eight million visitors through its gates.
Now I am sure most of those eight million visitors came away having had a good time, but we couldn’t help feel a little underwhelmed. Apart from the red panda (I love red pandas!), everything else just seemed… well… a bit average. The entire place looks a little run down, the animals all looked well and cared for, despite some of the enclosures being quite small, but this zoo is nothing special at all. By the way, did you know red pandas are also called “firefoxes”, yes, like the Internet browser!
A man goes to a zoo, but the only animal in the entire place is a dog. It was a shih tzu. Yes, I know, it’s terrible isn’t it… my Dad has plenty more where that came from… but it kind of sums up our visit, I’m afraid to say. On the way back, we also stopped at Cineworld Broughton (just outside Chester but still in North Wales) to watch Bridget Jones’s Baby and Mum couldn’t help laugh that Dad was the only man in the cinema!
