Bristol is alright my luvver! // August 2016

We were in Bristol for ArcTanGent, a music festival for alternative genres of rock like Mum’s favourite, post rock, but I’ll tell you all about that in another post. We’d spent Friday there and decided to stay an extra day and explore Bristol on the Saturday. We were quite happy to leave the hotel that morning, we’d stayed at the ibis Bristol Temple Meads Quay on the Friday night, which can only be described at basic. The bathroom was basically a plastic pod in the middle of the room! Luckily for us, they didn’t have rooms for the Saturday night!

Bristol is arguably the capital of street art, whilst also being considered by many to be the birthplace of the UK’s graffiti scene. So our main aim was to hunt for as much urban art as we could find and you can read all about that by following the link above. After a few hours searching, we were hungry and luck would have it came across an absolutely awesome find. Dad likes a burger and he was not let down by Three Brothers Burgers. The Three Brothers concept is simple – great burgers and an ever changing and extensive range of craft beers and ciders, all in a picturesque Harbourside spot.

It was a rainy day, so everyone was crammed inside and we were lucky to get in just before the rush. It was an bargain as well, a burger and fries for £5 per person, but you could pay a little extra to pimp your burger with pickles and the like. That afternoon we had a few chilled pints in the King Street Brew House, an urban style city centre pub with its very own micro-brewery creating an amazing range of both cask and keg beer. We would recommend this place and it’s right in the midst of a vibrant mix of restaurants, pubs, bars and shops.

The day after we went into Clifton and walked over the very impressive Clifton Suspension Bridge. The bridge, which spans the picturesque Avon Gorge, is the symbol of the city of Bristol and for almost 150 years this Grade I listed structure has attracted visitors from all over the world. The bridge joins Bristol and North Somerset and all I will say is, don’t look down! My little bear legs were like jelly! The bridge is built to a design by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw, based on an earlier design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. A quick mention to Côte Brasserie where we enjoyed an amazing Full English Breakfast, made with top quality ingredients and served with perfect poached eggs.

The end of an amazing few days, despite the weather not been great for August, but the Sun was starting to shine, so we decided on a quick detour to Bath on our where home, which you can read about by following the link.

In the words of a local, Brizzle was lush!
