Bryn de Bear

Ich bin ein berliner at Ständige Vertretung, Berlin

If you’re like my Mum and Dad, no matter where you travel to, you always find yourself a “local” and Ständige Vertretung is definitely ours. Firstly they have all my Dad’s favourite German beers, Weissbier, Dunkel and Schwarzbier. It’s not possible and probably against German law to not have at least one of each beer and get a bit tipsy in the middle of the day and that is what we do every time we go. Prost! 🍻

It’s not just the beer here though, we love to location too. It is on the banks of the River Spree, opposite Friedrichstrasse station, so you can see and hear the frequent S-Bahn trains pulling into and then leaving the platform – there is something so relaxing about this – plus the many pleasure boats sailing up and down the river with the waving tourists. My Dad had a thing for pubs near train stations, but this is different and it’s definitely best in the warmer months when you can sit outside by the river.

It’s probably fair to say this is more of a restaurant than a pub and we often eat here is as well. You can’t really go to Berlin without sampling Currywurst, but our favourite dish here is Himmel un Aad, which translates to Heaven and Earth, the famous dish of the Rhine Valley Region of grilled black pudding, onion, apple and mashed potatoes. It is seriously tasty stuff! It’s pretty standard to finish off with a shot or two of Jagermeister, served straight out of the freezer like is should be.
