Tides from Nebula at Satans Hollow, Manchester

It’s fair to say this gig was definitely one for Mum rather than Dad. First of all, the band we were going to see played instrumental post rock, which is one of Mum’s favourite genres. Not only that though, but they were Polish, just like Mum, so this was a double box ticker. The gig was early – I’ll explain why in a minute – so we were headed into Manchester early afternoon and got straight off the train and into Piccadilly Tap for a what has now become a customary stop off for pint or two. We also went to our newly found favourite ramen shop, Toyko Ramen, for some heaven in a bowl.

All fed and watered, we headed over to the gig, which was at Satans Hollow. A new venue for us and if the name isn’t a dead giveaway, Satans Hollow is one of the few venues in Manchester that cater for lovers of rock and metal music. Although its address is Princess Street, it took a while to find as the entrance is actually hidden away on a back street. Even Dad’s trusty smartphone wasn’t much help here, as we walked back and forth on ourselves a few times before stumbling on the entrance. The band we were seeing was Tides From Nebula or Tides Of Nebula if you would believe Ticketweb, who’d somehow managed to print the tickets with the wrong band name on them!

The band were formed in Warsaw in early 2008 and the type of music they play was the perfect fit for the venue. When we walked in, the first thing that hit us was the decor. Everything had a hellish theme and there was a huge statue of Satan himself just above the DJ booth. The gig started at 6pm and we found out this was because the venue also doubles up as a nightclub. As soon as the gig finished, everyone got kicked out, before the club reopened shortly afterwards for the rock and metal enthusiasts of Manchester to mosh the night away.
